Book of Common Prayer: Interim Liturgical Authorization (Effective Advent 2026)

Until further notice, the following materials are authorized for immediate use throughout the Province:

· The 1928 Book of Common Prayer

· The 2011 REC Book of Common Prayer

· Attached links and documents provided below (as applicable to your parish or ministry setting)

All clergy/chaplans, parishes, and missions are directed to begin using the 1928 BCP or the 2011 REC BCP no later than this coming 1 Advent, 29 November 2026. These Prayer Books will serve as the normative liturgical foundation for ARCC worship during this transitional period.

 

Lectionary

The ARCC Bishops are engaged in development of liturgical resources drawn from and faithfully aligned with the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. This work will be part of our long-term effort to provide a unified, historically grounded expression of Anglican liturgy.

 

One such resource is an ARCC Lectionary. Our goal is to complete this work and authorize the ARCC Lectionary for use in early 2027.

 

Until then, members of ARCC are authorized to use the Prayer Book Lectionaries, or the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL). We are also providing here a link to the RCL Track One, with an explanatory introduction, as an easily accessible interim option.

 

Purpose of This Transition

This interim authorization ensures:

· Consistency of worship across the Province

· Continuity with the classic Anglican tradition

· A stable foundation for future ARCC liturgical resources

The ARCC remains committed to unity, clarity, and fidelity in all matters of worship and doctrine. Additional updates will be provided in due season as our work of ministry proceeds.
